Rat a Tat Tat

Ricky Rattie is knocking on Terry tan’s door, there is no answer, so he knocks again and again and before long he is pounding on Terry’s door.

Terry was asleep when he awoke to the pounding on his door.  He got up concerned at what it could be.  He opened the door and there stood an anxious Ricky Rattie.  “There is no need to pound on my door with two paws at once,” said Terry sleepily.  “I worked on a late shift last night and haven’t been asleep very long.”

Ricky apologises for being so impatient and asks Terry if he heard about the car accident near Kowhai Tree Farm a few weeks ago. “Yes,” replied Terry, Ricky answers, “I was asleep near the site of the accident and when I heard the crash I went closer to have a look and saw Steve inspecting the damaged truck and the green car, which was empty. Steve backed back and drove off in his truck. I saw a rabbit come out of hiding and hop into the green car and drive off in the opposite direction. But,” Ricky continued,” A beautiful rabbit passenger hopped out of the car at the time of the accident with a big bundle and hopped away.

The beautiful rabbit has been living behind the hill in a tent since the car accident.  I have been visiting the site regularly, unbeknown to her at night and eating her left overs.  The last few days she hasn’t been cooking and there is no food at the site and worse, I think she is unconscious. Can you come and visit the site and help her?”“Yes.I will get dressed and you can show me where she is,” replied Terry.

They arrived together at the site and found the beautiful rabbit lying down outside her tent.

Terry stroked her paw and spoke to her but there was no response. “We need to get Dr Kiwi to examine her quickly because she is cold,” said Terry. “You stay with her and I will go and fetch Dr Kiwi.”
Ricky went into the tent and found her sleeping bag and put her in it. He sung to her while he waited for Terry and Dr Kiwi to return. When he saw them in the distance he hid behind a bush because kiwis don’t like rats.

Dr Kiwi examined her and said she has delayed concussion and a serious eye injury. Terry looked around for Ricky to help him carry her to the Grayson’s home. (Dr Kiwi’s arms are too short to help carry her). Dr Kiwi said he was well aware of Ricky Rattie and his sister living in this area and they had done no harm to the kiwis so the kiwis would do no harm to them. Dr Kiwi said he will go to the Grayson’s house and let them know about the situation.

Dr Kiwi left and Ricky came out of hiding to help Terry carry her to the Grayson’s house.

When they arrived Mrs Grayson invited them to come in. Mrs Grayson put the beautiful rabbit in bed with a hottie. It wasn’t long before the beautiful rabbit started mumbling.

“What’s your name?” Mrs Grayson asked her when she opened her eyes.  “My name is Ingrid and I was travelling with my boyfriend when we had the car accident.  He told me to jump out and hop away as fast as I could. He hid and then drove the car away after the truck left.   I haven’t seen him since and I have run out of food.”  “ Well, you are safe now and there is enough food here for you,” smiled Mrs Grayson.
