The Pink Boot

It was a bright and sunny morning when Mrs Grayson woke up and looked out of the window.   She thought, I must get up now and go and pick blackberries before it gets too hot.   She hopped out of bed, got dressed, picked up her basket and went hopping towards the blackberry vines.

She went deeper and deeper amongst the blackberry vines because the other rabbits had picked the blackberries off the closer vines.   As she was picking the last blackberries she required something pink under the leaves caught her eye.   What can this be? she thought, as she hopped closer to have a look.

Oh!  It's a boot house lying on its side.   She looked through the hole in the roof and saw that it was empty.     She picked up her basket and hopped home as fast as she could to tell Mr Grayson.

Mrs Grayson was hot and panting when she arrived home. She told Mr Grayson of her discovery.   "Do you think you could find the pink boot again?" asked Mr Grayson.    "Yes! Yes!   Get a group of males together and we can bring it back to K. C. Bunnyborough."  replied the excited Mrs Grayson.

So Richard hops to Terry Tan's house and asks him and they hop to Len and Larry's house and ask them to come  and investigate  the pink boot whereabouts.

The male rabbits find and surround the boot and agree that the pink boot house has been empty for a long time and that  they will move it to K. C. Bunnyborough.

They all count 1, 2, 3 and lift the boot onto the trap and hop back to K. C. Bunnyborough.

They arrive at K. C. Bunnyborough and the  rabbits put down a foundation stone  for the boot house to be placed on.   The pink boot is lifted into position ready to be occupied.

"Wow!   The pink boot house looks great.   Who will live in it?" asks Richard Grayson,(Mrs Grayson's eldest son) .   " Mrs Grayson found the boot so it's her choice who she asks to live in it." replies Mr Grayson. Mrs Grayson is going to ask Mr and Mrs White with baby Gwen. They moved to K. C. Bunnyborough  in September 2009 and are living in a burrow.

Mr and Mrs Grayson hop off together in search of Mr and Mrs White.  They find them leaving the playground.    Mrs Grayson tells them the good news and they all go together to the pink boot to have a look.     Mr White says his family would love to have the pink boot for their home.   The male rabbits take the pony and trap to Mr and Mrs White's burrow to collect their  furniture.

Mrs Grayson goes home and cooks three large blackberry pies while Mr and Mrs White's furniture is collected and transported to the pink boot.   Mrs Grayson arrives back at the pink boot after  the furniture has been unloaded .   All the rabbits squeal in delight when they see the pies.   Mr and Mrs White invite the rabbits  to stay and eat the pies with them.   They accept and eat every crumb!  Mr White starts playing the piano and they all sing together late into the night.   It has been a long, but  a happy day, for all the rabbits involved.

There was an Old Woman who lived in a Shoe

I  liked looking at the picture that accompanied  this nursery rhyme in different books.  I don't like the last two lines of this nursery rhyme.

Below is the rabbits version of There was an old lady that lived in a shoe.

There was a grey rabbit that had
so many children and she knew what to do.
She cooked and she cleaned until
the young rabbits smiled and shone,
and then the day was done
They lived in a boot and all ate beetroot.

A Display of Model Ships

A group of rabbits from K. C. Bunnyborough have come to look at a display of model ships.

They hop into the hall and stop to look at a poster on the wall inside the entrance.

This viking ship is made from bronze. It had no identification on it.

The rabbits are impressed and some of them hop on the viking ship to explore.

This model ship is named Confection.

The Fijian boat has an outrigger on it.

The rabbits gaze at the empty Potter and Moore perfume bottle.

The Bluebell and Greg Grayson/Blue  hop onto the left   Playmobil pirate ship and Gene Grayson plays in the other one. Both  are waiting to be restored.

Mrs Grayson watches the twins: Greg and Grace, have a ride in the swinging play boat.   The rabbits have enjoyed  their visit to the display of model ships... some of them have never seen a ship before.

Mr and Mrs Cottontail visit Mrs McLay's Property

Mr and Mrs Cottontail have settled in at K. C. Bunnyborough and are enjoying living in their luxury caravan home.   Most days rabbits visit them and want to have a look through the caravan.   Mr and Mrs Cottontail would like to go to a church.   They have been told that there is a church on Mrs Mclay's property and also they may see a kiwi amongst the animals that live freely on her property.   So, today they are going to visit Mrs Mclay's property.

They are greeted inside the gate by a grey kangaroo and a brown kangaroo who advise them to leave the car here and walk ahead to the church.

They follow the path to the church and go in but there is no one around.

After spending time in the church they continue hopping on the path until they come to a Windmill and there is no one there either.   What a quiet place this is.

They continue hopping along the path hoping to see a kiwi when
they come across two toads sitting outside a toilet.   "Good afternoon can you tell us the best place to look to see a kiwi?" asks Mr Cottontail. " The biggest toad croaked. "Yes, continue hopping towards the lake.   There is another toilet there and Mrs McLay has set out a cup of tea for you both."    "Thank you." Mr Cottontail replied smiling.

After hopping some distance they meet two  ducks,  "Good afternoon ducks, we are looking for a kiwi."  said  Mr Cottontail.   "Quack, Quack," replied the ducks together, "Just quietly hop a bit further  and you will see two kiwis."

Mr and Mrs Cottontail hop quietly down the path and stop because they  hear some rustling and scratching.   "There's a kiwi." Mrs Cottontail whispers to Mr Cottontail.   (Actually, there are two kiwis in this picture.   Can you see the other one?)

Mr and Mrs Cottontail have hopped a long way towards the lake when they find the cup of tea set out for them.   "Ah, here it is," squeals Mrs Cottontail in delight.  They sit down to enjoy the cup of tea in peace.   Suddenly, they hear a gurgling noise coming from the lake.

"Oh!' Mrs Cottontail gasps, "There's a big fish."   They both put down their cups and hop over to the edge of the lake to see a beautiful shiny fish come up out of the water and  dive down again.   "Oh, what a wonderful day we have had on Mrs McLay's property ... seeing the kiwi and meeting the animals."   Mrs Cottontail  says as they hop hand in hand back to their car.

When Mr and Mrs Cottontail arrived at Mrs Mclay's property there was a kiwi by the kangaroos  that  followed  them around and is also in the photo with the toads and the photo with the ducks.

Mr and Mrs Cottontail arrive from the United Kingdom

Mr and Mrs Cottontail have just retired and have decided to immigrate to New Zealand to live.   They have flown from the United Kingdom to New Zealand and  get  a taxi from the airport to Kowhai Tree Farm.      They ordered a new car and caravan to be shipped to New Zealand to the Kowhai Tree Farm last month. Mr Cottontail gets out the map to see where they are and what direction they need to go.

Mrs Cottontail looks around and points,  "Our car and caravan have arrived and are parked over there." she says.  "Right," answers Mr Cottontail, "According to the map we just follow the old brick road to Kowhai Corner Hall."

Mr Cottontail gets his key out of his shoulder bag and tries it in the car door.
"Yes! It fits," he exclaims as he opens the car door.

"Oh, let me check the inside of the caravan first." says Mrs Cottontail.    "Oh, it's perfect."   BEEP, BEEP, sounds the car horn, "Get in the car and let's go." calls Mr Cottontail.

Meanwhile...   At Kowhai Corner Hall Mr Know has arrived with a a truck full of rabbits from K.C. Bunny borough.   They have come to welcome Mr and Mrs Cottontail to K. C. Bunnyborough

Mr Know lifts up the flap at the back of the truck and puts out the ladders  for the rabbits to climb down.   TURN AROUND RABBITS!

They climb down and hop into the hall to get it ready for the afternoon's entertainment.   "There's the hall," squeals Mrs Cottontail in delight as they drive closer.

The rabbits in the hall cheer and hop up and down with excitement as Mr and Mrs Cottontail get out of the car.

Mr Know greets them and shakes Mr Cottontail's paw as he welcomes them into the hall. He shows them to the chairs and  the entertainment begins.

Mr Know introduces Larry Lemon who will play the piano and Fiona Fawn who will play the violin.   The rabbits listen attentively.

Next is Terry Tan who plays the ukelele.   Terry Tan invites the rabbits to sing along with him. The rabbits join in with the singing and dance and clap together.    Mr and Mrs Cottontail thank all the rabbits for the the wonderful welcome and are looking forward to living the rest of their life in their caravan at Kowhai Corner Bunnyborough.

Mr Know thanks Larry Lemon, Fiona Fawn and Terry Tan for the music and asks the rabbits for help to set the trestle up outside for afternoon tea.   Mr Know says grace and then they all eat and drink.   "Don't eat too much, because the truck may not move with the extra weight!"   adds Mr Know with a grin.   All the rabbits leave the hall  to go back to K. C. Bunnyborough happy and content.

Welcome to Kowhai Corner Bunnyborough

Come and visit K. C. Bunnyborough and meet the rabbits that live there.  K.C. Bunnyborough is a safe haven for rabbits located on the back of Kowhai Tree Farm.   Mr Sunshine owns Kowhai Tree farm and has given permission for the rabbits  to use the land and establish their own community.

Most of the rabbits are Sylvanian rabbits or similar but  other rabbits and animals will also feature in some of the stories.  Missing from this photo this is Mrs Lemon, Tansy and Rosemary.

This is a photo of all rabbits living at K. C. Bunnyborough when I started this blog.

This is the Grayson family; Top left to right; Mrs Grayson, Mr Grayson, lower level is Tracy, baby Pip, Tansy, Lowest level is Richard, Chantilly, Grace, Greg and Lace. Mr Know is on the right who is the leader of K. C. Bunnyborough.

Visitors to K. C. Bunnyborough in January 2010

A green butterfly has arrived from England to visit  Grandfather and Grandmother Cottontail.   Grandfather and Grandmother Cottontail knew the green butterfly when they lived in England.    When they retired last year, they  moved from England   to come and live at K. C. Bunnyborough in New Zealand. The green butterfly would like stay at K. C. Bunnyborough during the summer months.

The second visitor during January 2010 was an echidna from Australia. He has met with some of the male rabbits to ask if he can stay a week to observe how  K. C. Bunnyborough functions.   Mr Know introduces himself as the leader, (he is  dressed in blue), and introduces him to the other male rabbits. There is a committee who has regular meetings to discuss and solve any problems.   The echidna stayed a week and to observe the daily life of the rabbits. On his last at K. C. Bunnyborough day he presented Mr Know with a boomerang as a token of his thanks for letting him stay.

A summer holiday treat organized by the committee each year is a drink of Lemon and Paeroa, a natural mineral water fizzy drink for every rabbit. Mr Grayson, his son Richard, Len and Larry Lemon  took Strawberry, the pony harnessed to the trap to the Lemon and Paeroa factory and brought back a  can of Lemon and Paeroa back to K. C.  Bunnyborough. The committee will distribute a drink to every rabbit living at  K. C. Bunnyborough.

The  word has spread amongst the rabbits that Strawberry has  arrived back at K. C. Bunnyborough with the Lemon and Paeroa can and the rabbits come to  get their drink.
