Nurse Emily Nightingale

Mr Grayson is getting Strawberry, the pony, ready to go and pick up Nurse Emily Nightingale who has accepted the position to live and work at K. C. Bunnyborough Medical Centre. Emily has been looking forward to come to K. C. Bunnyborough since she got the letter from Grandmother Cottontail telling her that K. C.  Bunnyborough are looking for a nurse to live and work at a new Medical Centre.  Emily was doing her nursing training in Sylvania when the Cottontail Grandparents retired and announced they were leaving Sylvania to come to K. C. Bunnyborough.

Mr Grayson is picking up Nurse Emily at the base of the Kowhai Tree. On approaching he can see Emily waiting and talking to another rabbit and he wonders who it is. It is not someone he has met before.

Emily introduces Mr Grayson to Flo, who is a trained Dentist, and asks if she too, can come to live at K. C. Bunnyborough and be her assistant at the Medical Centre when she is not doing her dentistry job. Well, Mr Grayson is stunned and doesn’t know what to say because Flo hasn’t applied to come to K. C. Bunnyborough and therefore it hasn’t been approved by the K. C. Bunnyborough committee. Mr Grayson tells Flo that there isn’t a Dentist at K. C. Bunnyborough and it would be a good idea to have two rabbits at the Medical Centre to help each other and for safety reasons.

Mr Grayson takes them to his home to meet his family and have some afternoon tea before he takes them to the Medical Centre.

Mrs Grayson welcomes them to come inside.

Mr Grayson rings Mr Blue and Mr Know to explain the situation and both respond positively that Flo can stay on trial to see if she likes it here. (The Grayson young rabbits are scare of the Dentist!)

Mr Know and Mr Blue are at the Medical Centre to welcome Emily and Flo and show them around the Medical Centre.
There is no bed prepared for Flo but she opens her trunk and produces her sleeping bag. Mr Know asks Emily if she would like a free day tomorrow to look around K. C. Bunnyborough or can he bring Rata, Marigold and Rosemary to the Medical Centre tomorrow morning.

Emily cheerfully replies, “You can bring them here tomorrow morning and we will examine them,” and she continues in a puzzled voice, “Where’s the toilet?”The male rabbits look at each other and Mr Blue replies that it is something that they have overlooked and a toilet will be installed in the near future. They all leave and let Emily and Flo to settle in for their first night.

Emily and Flo sleep well and wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready for their first day working at K. C. Bunnyborough Medical Centre.
This is part two of K. C. Bunnyborough Medical Centre.

K. C. Bunnyborough Medical Centre

There is a meeting being held at Twin Trunks between Mr Grayson, Mr Blue, Mr Know, Mr Kiwi and Dr Kiwi.  Dr Kiwi is concerned about the quick growth of K. C. Bunnyborough with more rabbits arriving to live at K. C. Bunnyborough and more houses being built he feels the kiwi community could have problems and lose their privacy.   Mr Kiwi doesn’t mind how many rabbits arrive to live at K. C. Bunnyborough because he is always experimenting to make new lotions and medicines for different cures and needs to sell them!    The kiwis live in the rabbits disused burrows on the other side of the land where the rabbits have built their homes. The kiwis live in the rabbits disused burrows on the other side of the land where the rabbits have built their homes.

Dr Kiwi does approve of the new Public Wash House but the real need at K. C. Bunnyborough is for a nurse and a medical centre.   Mr Know stammers in agreement… (Mrs Know has been pressurising him to find a nurse to come and live at K. C. Bunnyborough.)  Mr Grayson and Mr Blue’s family were the first rabbit families to arrive at K. C. Bunnyborough at a time when rabbits were been eradicated from farms by poisoning and shooting.   Mr Sunshine donated some of his farm land for exclusive use for the Grayson family to use and establish a safe community for rabbits in need which is called K. C. Bunnyborough.  Mr Know arrived a month later and found three young female rabbits who had injuries, separate incidents, and no families . The Grayson and Blue families welcomed them into their homes and Dr Kiwi attended to their injuries.

Back to the meeting! The kiwis and rabbits have approved the building of a medical centre where a nurse can live in. Rata, Marigold and Rosemary will get all the attention they require.

The next morning Mr Know visits the other rabbits to pass the word around that help is required to build a Medical Centre tomorrow morning and they would like to have a nurse at K. C. Bunnyborough.

Grandfather and Grandmother Cottontail tell Mr Know they have met Nurse Emily Nightingale and  Grandmother Cottontail offers to write to her and invite her to come and live and work at K. C. Bunnyborough.

The following morning the male rabbits and kiwis arrived early and started building the  Medical Centre and were finished by 4 pm.

The female rabbits have furnished the Medical Centre so it is now ready to use.

Mr Grayson invites all the helpers to use the Wash House and stay and have a feed of carrots before they go home.

The clean rabbits eat the juicy carrots and sing along with Terry Tan who is playing his ukelele. They go home very tired and happy.
The next morning Grandmother Cottontail receives an answer to her letter to Nurse Emily Nightingale saying she has accepted the position at K. C. Bunnyborough Medical Centre and will arrive next week.

Part two is called Nurse Emily Nightingale
