Kiwi Sports

Mr Kiwi and Doctor Kiwi have been looking at the poster on the wall at Doctor Kiwi’s office. The poster is of a Kiwi sports day that was held for all Kiwis a few years ago. Doctor Kiwi went to all the sports activities.  Mr Kiwi went with him as a support person in case there was any injuries.  There were no injuries and the Kiwi sports day was a great success.

The running was the most popular activity; even so, the kiwis are slow runners!

The tennis game was enjoyed by all who watched.

Farmer Kiwi arrived to watch the archery and two of his lambs followed him! The Policeman Kiwi arrived promptly to remove the lambs and put them in a pen until the sports activities were finished. Farmer Kiwi was very embarrassed.

The skiers did the course in a quick time but Mr Kiwi and Doctor Kiwi both wished they had worn a woolly hat.

Two kiwis that competed in the Commonwealth games came to watch the bowling.

The diving was spectacular and there was a deep sea diver in the pool ready for an emergency.

The Indoor basketball and netball skills were displayed.  It was an action packed three days of sporting activities for the kiwis.

Mr Kiwi pulls out of his pocket a kiwi sports serviette that he designed and the were given to all the participants to encourage them to keep active. Doctor Kiwi is very impressed… but he knows his brother is very talented.

The Missing School Hand Bell

This is part two of The Bell Tower

The male rabbits have put up the new school bell tower. They told Mrs Know that they know nothing about the missing hand bell that was by Mrs Know’s chair and desk. Mr Know tells Mrs Know he will go and make some inquiries and he hopes to have the hand bell back at the end of the day. The male rabbits leave to do their daily tasks and the student rabbits come hopping into the school room.

They love the new bell tower and bell tone which is a deeper tone than the hand bell. Len and Larry would love to climb up to have a closer look at the bell but can’t see how they can.

Mrs Know is reading the class a story, Two Bad Mice by Beatrix Potter when they hear a ding a ling from the hand bell. It does sound distant but they recognise the sound.

Meanwhile… Ruth Rattie is scuttling away from K. C. Bunnyborough and she is holding a bell! Ruth has taken the school bell and is looking for her brother, Ricky.  Ruth thinks the bell is made of gold and she wants to show Ricky so they can go to the city and sell it for a lot of money.  Ruth would like to buy a home and some shoes.

She scuttles pass Twin Trunks. Oops, the bell is heavy and she drops it.  It does make a clang but there is no one around so she scoops it up and continues on her way.

She sees Ricky and explains to him her idea.

Ricky is not pleased that Ruth has stolen the school hand bell.

Mr Know is on his bike cycling around K. C. Bunnyborough making inquiries about the missing bell. He stops at Twin Trunks when he sees the little hedgehog and asks her if she has seen anyone with the school hand bell.

“Yes, Ruth went pass ten minutes ago with it.” She answers.

“Oh, right, I’ll try to catch up to her.” Mr Know thankfully says.

Ruth and Ricky hear a noise and Ruth quickly climbs unto the mushroom and drops the bell into the hollow trunk.  Mr Know cycles up to them and asks Ruth if she has seen the school hand bell today.

Ruth starts crying and Ricky quietly tells Mr Know that Ruth did take it and wanted to sell it in the city for money to buy a house and shoes.  Mr Know tells them the bell is not gold it is brass.

Ricky returns the bell to Mr Know and apologises for Ruth’s actions. Ruth is crying harder and Mr Know says he won’t leave until she stops crying.  After a few minutes Ruth stops crying and also says she is sorry for stealing the school hand bell.

Mr Know arrives back at the school before the class is dismissed for the day with the school hand bell. The rabbits and Mrs Know are delighted that it has been found. One of the rabbits asks who took it. Mr Know replies that is doesn’t matter who took it, what matters now is that it has been returned. He is wondering shall the hand bell be given to the hospital or should he have it at his house because he lives at the edge of the town. A decision will be made by the committee at the next meeting.

That night when Ricky and Ruth had made their bed out of leaves and Ricky was cuddling Ruth. Ruth said  before went sleep , ”Ricky you’re the most important thing in my life. A house and shoes are not important if I don’t have you to share my life with.”

The Bell Tower

The green butterfly lives by K. C. Bunnyborough and has watched with interest how the rabbit community has developed and is managed by the rabbit committee.

The green butterfly flies to the Northern Hemisphere in the winter and meets up with other butterflies in the area she was born. One afternoon while she was in the Northern Hemisphere she was flying across a field when she noticed a bell tower discarded on its side on the ground.  There was no one around or any  building nearby. She flew down to have a closer inspection and recognised that the bell tower was from Sylvania. She fluttered her wings and thought this would be  appreciated at K. C. Bunnyborough School.  She has seen Mrs Know ring the hand bell during the day.

The green butterfly goes and finds her friend the spider and asks him to weave a web around the bell tower so she can pick it up with her feet and fly back to K. C. Bunnyborough School.

The spider spins his web tightly around the bell tower for the green butterfly and when he has finished the web tells the green butterfly it will be strong enough for her to hold onto with her feet while she flies back to K. C. Bunnyborough  School in New Zealand! She thanks the spider and flies away carrying the bell tower with her feet.

Ten days later at K. C. Bunnyborough School Mrs Know is tiding up in the school room, after the young rabbits have gone home after a  happy day at school, when she hears a plop!

Mrs Know turns around and sees a bell tower on the school front lawn! The green butterfly flutters over to Mrs Know, who has come outside to have a closer look, to tell her that this is a gift for the school.  Mrs Know is very surprised to receive such a gift and tells the green butterfly that Mr Know, with helpers will set the bell tower up so it can be used. The green butterfly tells Mrs Know that she is going back to the warm Northern Hemisphere and will be back in the spring to see how the bell tower is set up and flies away.

Mrs Know hops home and tells Mr Know about the bell tower that the green butterfly has given the school.  Mr Know asks the fantail to go and tell the adult male rabbits to meet at the school in an hour's time to decide how and where to set up the bell tower.

An hour later the male rabbits arrive at K. C. Bunnyborough School.

They discuss how they are going set up the new bell for the school to use.  Terry Tan tells the other rabbits where there is a newly cut tree that has had the bark taken off.  The other rabbits are interested to see the processed tree trunk  because it sounds just right to use. Terry Tan has offered to deliver it to the school early the next morning.

Early the next morning the male rabbits are back at the school to help set up the new bell tower.

Steady and lift off the cart and put it upright.

Mr Know has the privilege to ring the bell for the first time for the rabbit students start school.

Mrs Know is the first to arrive and she is delighted to see how the male rabbits have set up the new bell tower.  It sounds different to the hand bell Mrs Know has been using.  Which, by the way,  Mrs Know asks, "Where is the hand bell?"

The male rabbits look at each other and shake their heads and answer they haven’t touched the hand bell.

Part two is called The Missing School Hand Bell.
